Happy 2024, everyone! I recently returned from the Society of Historical Archaeology annual conference in Oakland, California, which is always held at the start of the year. This year I was invited to present a paper as part of an excellent session on frontier mythologies, which gave me an opportunity to jump into something I came across in my Brother XII research – an organization called the Native Sons of British Columbia and the role that they played in the establishment of British Columbia’s cultural heritage protection laws (which govern archaeology in the province).
I’ve recorded a copy of my presentation that is the same as the live presentation I gave in Oakland, and I’ve uploaded it here for those interested in checking it out! Excuse my rough voice, I am getting over a small cold. I’ll also upload a PDF of my speaking notes below the presentation, for those who would like a transcript. I always write my speaking notes as transcripts so it should be pretty easy to follow along as you have the video playing. I’ll keep this post short as I’ll let the presentation speak for itself. I hope you enjoy!
(Note – for some reason as I’m editing the post the video starts playing at an odd spot so you may have to skip back to the beginning when you start playing it!)
